Car rental company Uber, in partnership with Miami-based Ironhack school of design and programming, will fund 50 scholarships for customers and drivers registered on its app looking for a life-changing opportunity.

For the second year in a row UBER has partnered with the Miami   Ironhack School of Programming and Designto grant Scholarships to drivers and clients who wish to study to work in the future as programmers or designers Professional.

Car rental tech giant to grant $200,000 in scholarship funds, enough for the first four winners to receive a full scholarship worth $11,000 each, plus another 45 people to receive partial scholarships.

To know first-hand the details of this magnificent opportunity DIARIO LAS AMERICAS moved to the headquarters of Ironhack and spoke with Alia Poonawala, general manager of the educational institution, number one of its kind in Florida.

“We are thrilled to team up with UBER for the second year in a row and double our scholarship offerings,” said Poonawala.

“We continue to see a growing demand for Tech  TalentsBoth locally and nationally, and through this scholarship, we will be able to educate about 50 South Floridians who want to make career changes and become part of the rapidly evolving technology landscape.

“The magnificent stories of the students who have passed through our institution are our main source of inspiration. Many upon graduation have been placed in reputable South Florida companies such as Magic Leap, Visa and CareCloud, where They start earning salaries on the order of $60,000 a year. We can’t wait to see what our 2018 scholars can accomplish.”

Poonawala highlighted two Ironhack alumni success stories: ” One of our scholarship recipients for the 2017 academic year was the talented young Iván Jorge, a 19-year-old Cuban immigrant who had worked since he was a teenager to support his family. Working doing UBER EAT while studying at University, upon completing our course at Ironhack, Jorge was hired as a software engineer at Xevo, a great great company that provides software for the automotive industry.

“Oleh Kolinko is another example, an immigrant from Ukraine who discovered Ironhack through the Uber scholarship. After completing the web developer course in January 2017, he was hired as a web application developer at JetSmarter, a novel marketplace for shared private flights.

Applicants for scholarships that cover courses of 400 teaching hours, whether drivers or clients, must apply through the Uber application, between January 8 and 19. There all the details of this great opportunity are specified. To enter, users must provide their personal information and will receive a link to apply for one of the three Ironhack courses. It is important for drivers to ensure that they have the latest version of the UBER app installed.

The first step is for candidates to apply no later than January 19 at 11:59 p.m. Then, the company will contact those selected to hold a round of interviews and finally on Tuesday, February 6, the winners of the scholarships will be announced. “A fundamental requirement is to speak English” Poonawala said. On Saturday, January 13 at 11 a.m. Ironhack will hold an open day. All those interested in knowing the conditions of the courses, the teachers and the facilities of the school can attend. This free event will take place at the Ironhack campus at 120 S.W. 8th Street in Miami.

Since 2013, Ironhack has graduated more than 1,000 students who are building their careers at South Florida companies like Magic Leap, CareCloud, and JetSmarter, as well as global companies, including Google, Visa, and Twitter.

The process to apply for UBER / IronHack scholarships is as follows:

1-UBER drivers and clients in Florida should check their application from January 8-19 for details on scholarships.

2-Those interested must enter their information and receive a link to apply for one of the three Ironhack courses.

3-Scholarship applications must be received no later than 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time on January 19, 2018.

4-The selected finalists will be contacted for the second round interviews. Winners will be announced on Tuesday, February 6.

5-Open House on Saturday, January 13 at 11.00 a.m. at Ironhack, 120 S.W. 8th Street in Miami.
