It scored highly for “walking and biking,” and ranked highest for proximity to restaurants and parks, density and proximity to child care centers, density of schools, and medical access.

The concept was coined a few years ago by the mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo. A ” 15-minute city” is one where you can reach, on foot or by bicycle, all essential places, employment, food, hospitals, schools, parks and entertainment. And according to a new study, Miami is the U.S. city that best fits that criteria.

A report investigated the quality of life in different U.S. cities.

The report by moving website moveBuddha.com, Miami, Florida, ranks first on its list as the best “15-minute city” in the United States, with a surprisingly high score for “walking and biking.” In addition, the city ranked highest for proximity to restaurants and parks, density and proximity of child care centers, density of schools, and medical access.

Miami tops the list with a score of 7.83 out of 10. San Francisco, California, came in second with 6.10, followed by Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania (5.81); Boston, Massachusetts (5.35); Washington DC (5.31), and Baltimore, Maryland (5.28).

Miami’s score is an average of the following ratings: Child Care (10), Food, Parks and Community Living (8.4), Walking and Biking (8), Health and Safety (7.2), and Housing Access (2.9).

While Paris may have popularized the “15-minute city,” Miami and San Francisco are apparently emerging as strong contenders for this kind of lifestyle (though both cities are quite expensive to live in).

The crisis of the Covid-19 pandemic It globally accelerated the desire to live in functional and human-sized cities, towns and neighborhoods. In fact, this urban proposal was adopted, in May 2020, by the C40 Climate Leadership Group, in response to the climate crisis and the urban effects of the pandemic crisis.
