Surfside is the heart of Miami’s small beachfront town. As ice cream shop owner Jessica shows us, you can find everything within a few blocks in this deliciously cozy neighborhood. New restaurants are adjacent to historic buildings and classic hair salons, all just steps from one of the most pristine beaches in the world.

1.CAFE RAGAZZI

For over 15 years, Café Ragazzi has been one of Surfside’s culinary hotspots. Owned by famed singer Ricardo Montaner and his wife Marlene, Ragazzi offers traditional and contemporary Italian cuisine, brick-oven pizza and an extensive wine list. Be sure to try some of the wines selected by the owner from your Bodega del Patron wine list.

2.FLANIGAN’S

Local empire Flanigan’s has more than 20 locations throughout South Florida, but that shouldn’t stop you from exploring this one, with its prime location in downtown Surfside, just one block from the beach. The famous dish is ribs (Flanigan’s says it sells more than 1 million pounds a year), but chicken wings, grilled and fried seafood, and other bar classics are also favorites for many Miamians.

4.SERENDIPITY

The ice cream and sorbet at Serendipity are made entirely from scratch in small batches, even the cookie dough that folds. It’s an inspiring story in Miami: founder Jessica Weiss left her career as a lawyer to open the store in 2008 after beginning experimenting with unique ways to make frozen candy and finding her passion for craftsmanship. Everything is kosher, and its flavors can be found in pop-ups and restaurants throughout Miami.

5.SURFSIDE BARBER & CAROUSEL BARBER SHOP

You wouldn’t think a city the size of Surfside would need two hair salons, but you’d be wrong. Surfside Barber Shop and Carousel Barber Shop are across the street from each other, locked in a friendly rivalry of razors and cutouts. Barbers at both institutions serve classic and shaved haircuts in an old-world style that can be hard to find these days.
